Laserama!

Posted 13 December 2010 | Featured,news

Our laser is up, humming, and seeing prolific use. Patrick Dinnen of Media Lab Toronto has been putting it through its paces, using it for a huge variety of projects. The biggest is his amazing projection-mapped televisions, a video installation that will be on display at HoHoTO, an annual fundraiser for the Daily Bread food bank. On a much smaller scale, Patrick has cut a letter for his little sister (because what little girl wouldn’t want a letter made by laser?). He’s also used it to make a few very cool looking contour maps.
Patrick isn’t the only one using the laser, of course (although he is the only one consistently uploading pictures of his projects to our Flickr group): we’ve had people using it to cut intricate vinyl for costuming, acrylic structural pieces for larger projects, wooden pigeons, spray-paint stencils, and more.
Have you got a project you want to make on the laser? Of course you do! Come visit us at one of our weekly open house nights, every Thursday from 7:00-10:00, and talk with our members about making your ideas a reality! You can also keep your eye on our event page to sign up for our next laser certification class (if there isn’t one on the schedule and you want to learn, shoot us an email at info -at- site3.ca and we’ll see what we can do).
